Tuesday 29th November - Homeward Bound
Comment has been made about the recent lack of maps so here is the final version showing our complete tour.
Our airport transfer went as planned and we breezed through check in and security. The duty free plan required amendment as Costa Rica discriminates outrageously against gin drinkers when it comes to duty free prices. R was able to score a huge (1.75 litre) bottle of Stoli for less than the price of a litre of any of the available gins. The lounge is fairly basic but the beer is cold (and free) and the wifi works so the blog for Monday can be written up and published.
The fight to Amsterdam goes via Liberia, a 25minute hop to the North West in an area we did not visit. At Liberia there is a crew change and the champagne is brought round. Dinner is served very efficiently and the lights go down by 22.30. We both sleep surprisingly well and wake around our customary hour of 05.00 (Costa Rica time). Breakfast service is just beginning (12.00 Amsterdam time) so our timing is spot on. The Senior Purser comes round to offer a choice of the Blue Delft houses that KLM hand out to Business Class passengers. These contain a handy emergency reserve measure of Bols Gin.
We arrive early in Amsterdam and have time for a relaxed drink in the lounge, which is much quieter than it was on our way out. D even remembers to get the central heating to fire up an hour before we get home. The wonders of the internet. The highlight of the final leg of our trip is having a seat on the plane that allows us to see our three checked in bags being loaded, right at the end of the process. Does last on mean first off?
In previous Radinblogs we have padded the rather unexciting return journey day with pictures of things that made us smile. This time is no exception.
Surprisingly our bags are among the first dozen to appear on the carousel. There is no queue for taxis which is good as the temperature is only just above freezing. It gets dark in Scotland even earlier than it does in Costa Rica at this time of year. We are home by 17.30. Time to unpack before England v Wales tonight. Is there a Spanish language commentary available?
Telemundo was streaming Estados Unidos vs Irán worldwide.
